What is Sound Healing?

Sound healing is an ancient modality in which instruments are played around (and sometimes on) a person to help regulate the nervous system and to encourage the flow of energy in the body. It reaches us on a cellular level and helps to bring us into balance and harmony.

How does it work?

Simply put, water is a powerful conductor of sound and vibration and humans are made up of around 60% water. Sound healing can gently shift this water to bring on changes in the physical and energetic body. Vibrations from the instruments work to break up areas of energetic and emotional density.

The body can fall into the rhythm of the instruments. In this space you can enter a state of rest and repair and a slowing down. The heart rate, breath and mind often follow. Sound can also encourage the body to release endorphins.

It should also be noted that when we shake things up, feelings can come to the surface that aren’t always comfortable. These can be emotions that we need to move through in order to release. That’s why it’s really important to give yourself time to integrate and rest after your session.

Some of the potential benefits include:

  • Improved sleep

  • Reduction in stress, anxiety and depression

  • Lower blood pressure

  • Relief of pain

  • Feeling a sense of calm and safety within yourself

  • A greater connection to yourself and your intuition

  • Homeostasis of the body and its systems

  • Improving the flow of energy in and around the body

  • Developing a feeling of safety to rest

The instruments I may use include crystal singing bowls, Himalayan bowls, the gong, chimes, tuning forks, rattles and drums.

Sound Healing

What to expect at your appointment

Sound Healing can be experienced through a 1:1 session or in a group setting which is known as a Sound Bath.

1:1 Session

We will go through an initial consultation form and discuss your medical history, lifestyle and anything else you feel is relevant. This is confidential and is to help me give you the best treatment possible.

The treatment will usually be floor based or in a chair if laying on the floor isn't possible or comfortable for you. Instruments will be placed around the body. I will start with a short meditation to help you slow down before playing the instruments that I'm called to use.  With your prior consent I may place instruments on the body if this feels like what is needed. After the sound part of the treatment there will be a period of silence for you to process the frequencies and vibrations that you received. I will then gently bring you back into awareness. Afterwards we will have a chat about anything that came up during the session and go over some aftercare.

Group Session/Sound Bath

A group session will work in a similar way but will be with other people and without individual focus. Receiving treatments in a group setting can be extremely powerful and is a good option if a 1:1 session isn't financially accessible. I will have one free space and one lower cost space at each sound bath for those that aren't able to pay full price.
